Recovering the Gold Nut

This story is about Fred, a thirteen-year-old squirrel. He was so intelligent and loved reading and writing. Fred also learned how to speak human language, but he was afraid of people. When he was very young, a child took his mom as a pet and she never came back. Since that day, Fred didn´t like humans. Fred was living with his brother Victor because his dad died last month. Victor was very good with technology and was very intelligent too. He created an incredible system to collect nuts of the trees with scrap metal.

Fred and Victor loved their dad very much and the only thing they had from their parents was a mysterious and incredible gold nut. His father found it in Egypt. He was an explorer and he found it at the top of a strange tree in a cave. Fred and Victor had it hidden because it was very valuable. The two brothers kept it at the bottom of their tree, behind a picture of his father.

One sunny day, Fred went with his friends to the park to play. Victor was resting in their house. Suddenly, he heard a very loud noise “Tuc, Tuc, Tuc”. Someone was cutting Victor and Fred´s tree. Victor got out of the house very fast. Then, Fred came back and he didn´t find his tree. He only found his brother. Victor told Fred what had happened. They were so sad. They went to the little remaining part of the tree. His things were there, but the most important thing wasn´t in its place. The gold nut was missing.

The brothers had to make a plan to recover it. Victor grabbed a leaf of a tree and started building a device that detects gold. The first day was difficult because it was raining, but Victor could finish his device. They searched all day in the park and started asking his friends if they had seen something strange, but they didn´t know anything. Finally, they couldn’t find it.

At night, they noticed that Mr. Henryson was not in her house anymore. Mr. Henryson was a human who lived near the park and every morning exercised. Victor and Fred were afraid of him. However, they decided to look for the nut in his house with their detector. They were searching for a while and suddenly, they discovered that the nut was there.

They were afraid to go because Mr. Henryson was a human. But if they wanted to recover the nut they had to go. They decided to enter through the window, and it was easy. There they found out that the nut was very close to Mr. Henryson, he was sleeping. They were very near to catch it, but Blondie, Mr. Henryson´s cat, appeared and the brothers got scared. They ran out the house very fast.

The next day, Victor and Fred were planning how they would recover the gold nut. Fred said that he remembered Mr. Henryson ´s calendar. He saw the calendar hanging on the wall. That day Mr. Henryson had a meeting at nine o´clock. They planned to enter to the house at that time, but then they remembered the cat. “What can we do with the cat?” Fred said. Victor proposed that he would make a fake mouse to cheat Blondie. With all planed and with so much courage, the brothers went to the house to recover the gold nut. Victor put the fake mouse in front of the cat and Fred went to the back part of the house and entered through the window.

With the gold detector in his hand, Fred looked around and found the gold nut on top of the bed. Fred made a big jump and grabbed the nut. Fred ran to his brother and together they went back to what was left of their house. In the meantime, the gold nut fell down and broke. Inside the gold nut, there was a seed. Mysteriously, a tree started growing. The tree was full of gold nuts. They decided to make their house there and celebrate!
