Once upon a time, a young boy called Bill made an important decision. He was tall and thin like his mother and father but smarter. He was a kid who knew lots of things about medicine. Bill was destinated to be a doctor, except that his parents didn’t agree with him.
His mother said, “Businesspeople LIKE ME sell to doctors everything they need, be a business person!” and his father said “Doctors waste their time! Robots can do everything that people do” Bill was tired of his parents’ nonsense but going to school wasn’t a relief… His best friend, Martin wanted him to be a football player “Football is your destiny! You are tall, thin, and great with the ball!” exclaimed every day.
The only person who understood Bill was his neighbor Mr. Newman, a ballet dancer. He supported the kid 100%. Bill thought he was the best and he considered his neighbor as a father.
After that, Bill tried everything to convince his parents that becoming a doctor was a good idea. “I will save lives! Even businesspeople!” he begged. “I deserve to be whatever I want” he protested but nothing worked. His parents didn’t change their minds. Bill was horrified and frustrated, how can two adults be so ridiculous? He thought.
He stayed almost every day at Newman’s house, his house was huge, colorful, and modern, he could relax and say everything he needed to say. For example, “I think I hate them! What is their problem with the profession I have chosen?!” exploded Bill. “Well, now you may think your parents are unfriendly and irritating people, but they are your parents” said Newman with a tranquilizer tone. “I am going to the university next year! But if I have to study Economy and Business Administration… I will quit.
One day Bill was so mad that he almost broke a chair. “Bill… Hey, be careful! I know what you are going through, at your age, my parents wanted me to be a soldier in the army, obviously I said no… oh God! Imagine me in a camouflaged suit! Anyway, what did I do? I did not listen to them. But don’t do that, it is better be honest and help them understand that they are wrong.” said Mr. Newman “Okay, I guess” answered the kid, a little shocked.
Finally, Bill took courage and walked into the hall of his house to talk to his parents. Bill lived in a huge and elegant house, the hall had a high roof, it looked like a mansion. Her mother was cooking dinner and his father was talking to her. Bill walked straight to the kitchen and told them that he appreciated his parents` opinion, but he would not be happy as a businessman. The only thing that he would enjoy being is a doctor. The parents had lots of things in mind, they had not seen his son talking like that. At first, they refused as usual but fortunately, they accepted and realized how unfair they were to his son. The next year, Bill entered to Harvard University and 6 years after, he graduated with honors in medicine.
