The present paper has the purpose to persuade and convince the readers that being a teenager is positive. It will present both good and bad things and compare them. It will expose how the coronavirus affects us, but also how a teenager in a normal context feels.
Coronavirus has given us more challenges. Normally as teenagers we would see our friends, meet new people, practice outdoor sports, among others. Most of these are no longer possible, there’s very little known about the virus, but it has proven to be dangerous. Many of us live with people who are vulnerable, which forces us to have to be even more cautious and gives a feeling of guilt if we get it or even if we go out for a safe walk. The virus has also made it impossible for us to have face to face classes, making some lose the experience of having their last year at school, or first year in university. Most of the changes have resulted in stressing situations, but we also have a lot of free time which is something good about it, and we are probably doing better than we would if we were older.
Something really positive about being a teenager is not having many responsibilities. Most of us only have to go to school. There are two main good things about this: having free time and not having to worry about “real” things. If my only responsibility is to go to school, I can take classes about things I like, learn new things, watch movies, read, go out for walks, etc. I don’t mean adults do not have time for this, but we do have more. Even though school may get to be something stressful, there are second chances and if you make a mistake you get help from other students and teachers, besides if you fail a test or paper there is not as many things online as there will be if you do something wrong on your work.
Another thing I really like about being a teenager is being able to look forward to the rest of your life, fantasize. Even though you may not have the best time ever being a teenager, in school you can’t choose what to study, you can’t be really independent, you can look forward to all those things that will happen in the future. This, to me, is the most positive point about being a teenager.
In conclusion, being a teenager is something positive. There are lots of good things, like not having lots of responsibilities, which also gives you more free time, being able to learn about new interesting things. Even the bad things are not so negative. On the coronavirus context we are not the ones who are having the worst time, some who were unemployed haven’t been able to get new jobs, so even though we all would be better off without coronavirus I think we are doing very well. In a normal context there are other disadvantages of being a teenager, like not being able to be really independent, making your own decisions, not being able to choose what you study in school, being a teenager gives you the chance to look forward to all those things, so it’s not so negative after all.
