A change

As I opened my eyes as I woke up, I spent a few minutes to remember what day it was. It was August 20th, the day in which I, Allen White, would begin my school year at the Oak University of Arts, or OUA. It was 6 in the morning. We were told to show up at 7, and since I live a bit far (and don’t have a driver’s license), it would take me a while to walk there.

I grabbed my bags (+my dog Mr. Toodles), and I looked in the mirror. My dyed, curly, and short pink hair was messy, and I was wearing my usual green striped scarf, my jeans, and my white t-shirt with short black sleeves.

I hugged my mom, then left the house.

When I arrived at the OUA grounds, it was 6:45 am. All the new students were waiting, right after the entrance. The rest of students headed to their rooms or stayed with the newbies in the welcoming ceremony. After the ceremony, we were told where we would stay and were given room keys. We were also told we were going to have roommates, which I thought was nice.

Once I reached the dorms, I opened my room’s door. When I saw who was inside, I felt my heart drop.

It was Carus Bianchi.

Great, even after high-school I still have to see his face. Carus and I know each other from high school. He was an emo, somehow one of the popular kids, cold and rude. I didn’t stand weak when he teased me though, I always snapped back at him.

We glared at each other and didn’t say a word.

But, one day, something changed. It all started when Mr. Toodles disappeared.

I was running around the room when Carus came in. Carus saw me worried and angrily asked me what was wrong. I told him, and he offered his help. I was surprised by that.

We searched everywhere but we didn’t find him. I told him he didn’t have to help me, but he said he was going to anyway. Why was he suddenly being nice? He even told me he was sure he was okay.

After hours of searching, we finally came back. I was so worried, I almost started crying. I sat on my desk and accidentally made my pen fall under my bed. When I went to get it, I saw Mr. Toodles under the bed! He was hiding there! Really?! Come on!

Carus just laughed. But this time, his laugh wasn’t a mocking one.

We started getting along after that. I still don’t know why he suddenly changed. I should ask him one day.
